Mrs. Lashier
4th Grade

November 30, 2007

November 30, 2007
Dear Parents,
This week we all shared in the sad news about our friend and teacher Susan Lashier. Services will be held Monday and Tuesday. We know that God answered our prayers and healed her. What we didn't expect was that she would now be in heaven. The children are wonderful models of faith. Mrs. Barber came in and read the Bible verse John 14:1-2 and we made cards. We will be making a floral arrangement with notes to be taken to the service next week. If you would like to include a card to Mr. Lashier please send it in Monday so we can deliver it that afternoon.
I am glad to have been here from the beginning of the year. In case you didn't know, I taught in the Garden Grove Unified School District for eight years in kindergarten, first grade, and did my student teaching in third grade and fourth grade. I have my California Clear Teaching Credential having graduated from C.S.U. F. and Chapman University. This will be my 9th year teaching. I enjoyed staying home the last three years being a stay at home mom. I'm glad to be back in the classroom and I really love this class.
God bless you,
Mrs. Hoops

Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for the many blessings God gives us each day. I am thankful for the opportunity to be with and teach this beautiful class of 4th graders. I am thankful for all the parental support you give each day to your children and me. They exude joy that flows from God through you as parents and into their young hearts. Dear Parents and Students,
November is here which means the holidays and special activities are filling up our calendar. There is a lot to remember the next few weeks!

There is no school Monday the 12th for Veteran's Day.

The rough draft of the mission report is due when we come back to school on Tuesday November 13th. The mission report guidelines went home several weeks ago (some of the children took new copies home this week in their assignment books). Last week in your Friday folder I sent home a handout explaining how to do a bibliography. Please remind your child that this rough draft needs to the best they can do on their own. The Rough Draft should be edited and "ready to publish" as we have been learning about the writing process. I will send them home with their Language books for you to refer to Unit 4 page 54. (Good sentences, spelling, punctuation, indent, does it make sense, *best cursive handwriting). The students should be looking up how to spell words in the dictionary. The Rough Draft should be no longer than 2 pages. Students do not have to include the Bibliography or pictures at this time (only when turning in the final copy). Thank you for your help with this project.
FINAL COPY IS DUE MONDAY, DECEMBER 3RD.

The spelling test for next week will be on Friday because there is no school Monday. Please study hard for list 11.

We will be starting new units for Literature and Language. Our next novel will be Number the Stars. Our Language unit focuses on punctuation.

The ALL SCHOOL on campus FIELD TRIP of the Nutcracker will be Tuesday November 27th. The $5.00 fee is due on Thursday November 15th. This classic holiday performance will be a wonderful experience for the children. A new flier is in your Friday Folder.

The Book Fair is coming next week! Tuesday, Nov. 13th - Fri., Nov. 16th 8:00am to 5pm daily. Family Night Thursday, Nov. 15th 3:00 to 7:00 pm.
In your Friday Folder is a catalog of some of the books that they will have the opportunity to purchase. You may fill out the order form on the back of the flier and attach a check payable to CCA boosters or cash. Or your child may shop and pay for their own books. Our class will be going to the book fair on Wednesday morning at 10 am. This will be their only time during the school day to attend the book fair. If your child will be buying books with the class they need to bring the money with them on Wednesday morning. They may purchase books at that time. Otherwise, you may accompany your child to the Book Fair anytime before or after school next week. This is a fun place to do some Christmas shopping. Parents are welcome to shop alone during school hours while the children are in class. Shhhh Christmas is coming!

Please remember and plan ahead for the rest of your Sacramento payment is due to Travel Teens on December 15th. Please let me know ASAP if you have a change of plans and cannot attend. We have students on the waiting list.

Mark your calendar. This year our class will be hosting the Glory of Christmas Glory Tables on Friday, December 7th from 5:30 to 8:30pm. We have a sign up sheet posted by the classroom door to bring food and to volunteer to work the tables that night. This will be our only classroom Glory Table for the year. Plan to come and help for this fun night of fundraising.

Last but not least, our class is going to have a Thanksgiving feast on Tuesday November 20th. More information and a sign-up sheet will come soon, but we are going to be preparing a meal together.
Have a great three day weekend!

God bless,
Mrs. Hoops

Dear Parents and Students,

Wow, great job on the biography posters! They all look great. The children did a wonderful job at School Family on Wednesday glorifying God and teaching about the Bible. I wanted to give a special thank you to Shelley Schuhmann, Toni Ferrel and Susan Hirsch for setting up and helping in the classroom on spider day, we appreciate you so much.
Two students received awards for the Christian Characteristic in the Month of October.Congratulations Patrick Ferrel for receiving the award for Faith. He loves to contribute to our class devotions and prayer requests. His faith is strong and evident in his life. Congratulations Jade Cao for the award of Knowledge. Jade uses her desire to acquire knowledge by learning all she can and honoring God.
There are many items on the calendar so please read and take note of the dates listed below.
Monday November 5 - All School Chapel in the Cathedral with guest speaker Arvella Schuller at 8:35. **We will be leaving the classroom at 8:30a.m. Sharp. If your child is not in the classroom by 8:30 please walk them over to the Cathedral and find our class. They cannot walk over alone.
. Mission Report - Please let me know which mission you chose to do your report on. This will be the same mission you will build in May.
Tuesday November 6th - Bible Test #2 The Old Testament from Genesis to Malachi. Please use the weekend to practice.
Thursday November 8th - Spelling Test #9 this is the last week we will be sending home a pretest. I always have the students bring home their spelling books on Friday to start studying.
Friday November 9th - No School Family today.

Important Events and Information:

. Class Mission - As you may remember our class is sponsoring a needy child through World Vision for our "Class Mission" project this year. His name is Alexis. He is from Mexico and the class has already written him and will continue to correspond throughout the year. We are asking that each family help your 4th grader earn $20.00. We talked about this at Back to School Night and in class. It is now time to collect the money so we can make sure Alexis and his family receive the donation by Christmas. Depending on the amount we receive the children may have enough money to purchase a goat or chickens for the family for Christmas. Cash or Checks made payable to CCA. CCA will issue one check for the total amount. Thank you!!!

. Mission Reports - Rough drafts due November 12th. You have two weekends before they are due. Please refer to the paperwork sent home in October. I am attaching a hard copy to the Friday Letter coming home in Friday Folders 11/2/07 of a very useful and kid friendly article on How to Write a Bibliography. This will help when you get to that point in your report. This project can become overwhelming if you don't start early. Everyone should have their mission picked out, be gathering information, and starting to write the rough draft.
. Field Trip - The Nutcracker Tuesday November 27th at 9:00a.m. K-12th graders will be attending this on campus field trip. A pink flyer went home last week in Friday Folders. Please fill out the bottom portion and return it to me with the $5.00. Parents are invited to attend for $5.00 also. All payments are due by November 15th.
. Sacramento Field Trip - Our Sacramento trip is full!!! We have two students in our class on the waiting list. If you have signed up and need to cancel for any reason please let me know as soon as you can. Thank you.

Thank you for your continued support. Have a great weekend.

God Bless,

Mrs. Hoops
