We are committed to excellent arts in a Christian setting for
all of our students. We believe that the arts are a way for
us to express our love for our Lord, Jesus Christ, through our
music, our visual arts, and through drama. Everything we do
reflects our Christian commitment.
Even though we are a small school, we have a myriad of opportunities
in the arts. And because we are connected with the Crystal
Cathedral Ministries, we have connections in the arts that we
can make available to our students.
For instance, our students can take organ lessons from the
premier organist in the country on one of the country’s largest
pipe organs. Our students have access to architectural gems.
One of our music teachers has his Ph.D. in music, has taught
music at UCLA, and is assistant arranger and director for the
Hour of Power orchestra. Crystal Cathedral High School offers
several courses in the Arts that have been approved by UC.
Vocal
Crystal Cathedral High School has a voice teacher and choir
that is performing at Carnegie Hall. Miss Allison Harned directs
our high school choir. Students have performed in the Crystal
Cathedral. One of our students has sung a solo that aired on
the Internationally broadcast, “Hour of Power”.
Dance
Dance
classes are offered that meet UC admissions requirements. They
also can satisfy PE requirements for Crystal Cathedral High
School graduation.
Our dancers have performed as flying angels and dance soloists
in the glory of Christmas and various Nutcracker productions.
Drama
In
addition to classes in drama, “Dramatic History and Literature”,
“History of Film”, and “Fundamentals in Acting”, the high school
students have the opportunity to participate in two theatre
productions every year. One production is a non-musical production.
There is also a musical production every year. Not only are
there acting opportunities, there are also opportunities for
working backstage – as technical support, and even assistant
directing.
Digital Art
We are fortunate to have a state of the art digital art lab
for our high school students. They are learning the latest
software programs that are currently being used in the business:
Quark, Photoshop, Flash, to name a few. Their instructor works
in the business of Christian animated videos as well as within
the industry of Electronic Games.
Instrumental
Strings
The Crystal Cathedral High School is fortunate to count on
our teaching staff, the accomplished cellist, Mr. Steve Velez.
Mr. Velez, who has performed with Yo Yo Ma, and Rod Stewart,
gives private string lessons, including guitar. He also directs
our string ensemble. They have performed in the Crystal Cathedral.
Instrumental
We have an elite instrumental ensemble, Vivace, which performs
a variety of music, from Bach to Williams.
Visual Art
The
students at the Crystal Cathedral High School have the opportunity
to explore the various media of visual art, from ceramics, to
oil painting, to soft sculpture. They have compiled some very
impressive portfolios.
