Public libraries are for everyone. Students who attend
private schools are just as welcome at the public library
as the students who attend local public schools. For
free borrowing privileges and subscription database
access some libraries require that families live or
work in the library district. All of the students at
our school are encouraged to get a library card at one
or more of the nearby public libraries. By using a library
card at home or at school students can access databases
of thousands of magazine, newspaper and journal articles.
Library service in Orange County is provided by several
systems that overlap. This is an advantage as students
may have the benefits of at least two different public
libraries. Not all libraries have the exact same resources
on the shelves or online. Addresses, hours, and in some

or semester fee is usually required for use of an academic

Databases
Valuable informational rich resources are available
for student use through the libraries’ paid subscription
databases. Some public library databases can be used
at home or at school with a library cards. Tax dollars
pay the subscription fee.

generally the same, many of them have differences that
are notable on the website or at the actual location.
New libraries such as Cerritos are worth a personal
visit. Unique features such as a huge fish tank, themed
furniture, and fountains make this a special experience
for little children or well as those interested in architecture
and interior design.

The City of Orange maintains its own libraries separate
from the Orange County Library System. The main library
and the two branches listed in the grid above are linked
to street maps. Getting a library card through this
library is not restricted to living in the city of Orange.

The OCPL is a network of branch libraries served by
an administrative office in Santa Anna where the books
are processed. The hours and programs vary so click
around on the various branches to find what best suits
your needs.

The state of California has stipulated that there should
be a free law library open to the public in every county.
The one that serves Orange County is in the Santa Ana
Civic Centers.

Reference librarians are waiting to direct you to books
or websites that will help you with your school assignments.
Reference service is available by phone as well as in
person. Some libraries have networked to provide 24/7
reference service online.
Libraries have many activities for students of all ages
through out the calendar year. The city of Anaheim has
bookmobiles or libraries on wheels that have set schedules.

Tri City Library Network
Anaheim, Placentia and Yorba Linda Public Libraries form
the Tri City Library Network. There is no need to live
in the city of Anaheim you need only be a California resident
for reciprocal borrowing privileges. No matter what library
you visit, be a responsible and informed citizen. Follow
library rules, return what you borrow in a timely manner
and visit often.
